Thank you for your interest in supporting Ariadne’s Crossword Library! Your contribution will go a long way toward keeping this project going. We are able to accept contributions via the following methods:
- PayPal: PayPal: https://paypal.me/EmmaOxford
- Venmo: @Emma-Oxford
- Personal check: please email damefoxwords@gmail.com, with “ACL Donation” somewhere in the subject line, for details if you would prefer to send a check. Please do NOT combine an email about donating to ACL with a monthly contest submission – it’s just me over here running things and you’ve gotta give me a fighting chance to keep things organized.
Please select “Personal” or “Friends and Family” if prompted by PayPal or Venmo.
Note ACL is NOT tax-exempt, which means your payment is not tax-deductible
There are various expenses associated with running ACL. Here are some of the ways the money which has been contributed so far (as well as future donations) may be used:
- Constructor payments. This is a big one – hopefully, eventually, the BIGGEST one. Everything else I could probably fund myself, but this one is definitely going to require some support. It is a major goal of ACL to publish contest crosswords by many different women and woman-aligned constructors. In order to encourage submissions from others, I need to be able to promise them fair compensation for their work. Fair compensation for featured constructors could get as high as a couple thousand dollars a year depending on how many submissions ACL receives, and without some external contributions to draw from, I’m not able to promise that to constructors.
- Website hosting costs. Fun fact: it’s not free to run a website. Although the costs are relatively low compared to constructor payments, this is another expense external contributions help defray.
- Monthly prizes. Each monthly contest run on this site has a randomly chosen winner who receives a prize, which is a copy of a thematically relevant book embossed with FROM THE LIBRARY OF ARIADNE. This requires 1) buying the book and 2) shipping the book, which adds up to a few hundred dollars a year. And this is assuming I’m shipping within the US. The reason I cannot currently mail books internationally (see FAQ page) is entirely because of the additional cost. I am hoping to be able to change this soon.
Thank you for your interest in helping to keep ACL going!
