“Opening Lines”

Welcome to Ariadne’s Crossword Library! Contest crosswords will appear here on the first of the month starting next month – January 1, 2025 – but to set the stage (to serve as the “opening lines,” if you will), a non-meta, non-contest (but still literary-themed!) crossword is attached to this post.

Please do not attempt to perform an impossible feat of mental gymnastics and try to find a meta answer in this puzzle. Please do not do it. There isn’t one, and you will just give yourself a headache, and that’s not how I want you to start your time here at ACL.

If you would like to be notified by email every time a new puzzle appears on this site, please head over to the homepage and scroll down to the “Subscribe to ACL” section. Hope to see you back here next month, when the real fun begins!

WordPress (which hosts this site) doesn’t support uploading of puz files, but fortunately for us Google Drive does! If you’d like to download a puz file to solve on your computer, please use this link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1CAjJkJwnF-nmx2KLFkpB3jLp577u5Wph/view?usp=sharing

You can also solve the puzzle on crossword-sharing site Crosshare. Use this link: https://crosshare.org/crosswords/5OFcysfrhgCd2zzp6Erb/opening-lines. Please note: future ACL puzzles will NOT be published on Crosshare because Crosshare doesn’t allow constructors to restrict solvers from checking/revealing squares in the grid. But since this one is not a meta and not a contest puzzle, I haven’t restricted the solution.

If you’d prefer a paper-and-pencil solving experience, PDF for download is below.

Happy solving!
